Welcome to Middle School Physical Education!!
The following is information necessary for your success and comfort during the year.

Our goal is for all students to participate in all PE classes and enjoy being active.  We expose students to a variety of activities with the hope everyone will be able to discover and enjoy personal favorites.

DRESS REQUIREMENTS:  Sneakers, shorts, t-shirt, or jersey.  This should be a change from clothing worn to school that day.  For safety, clothes should be free of buttons, snaps, zippers, or loops. Sneakers need to be tied, and should not be platform or backless/slip-on.  We will be spending at least half of our year outside so dress appropriately when the weather turns colder.  Sweatshirts, sweatpants, and jackets are all acceptable.  BE COMFORTABLE.  We also recommend that you label all clothing with your name, that way we can return it to you if it gets left behind.

OPTIONAL NEEDS:  deodorant, comb or brush, washcloth, towel.  Showers are not available but there may be times you wish to wash before leaving.

SCHEDULE:  Students have PE two or three times a week all year.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Gum chewing will not be allowed.
  • Horseplay in the area associated with Physical Education is not acceptable.
  • Equipment should only be used with permission and in the presence of the teacher.
  • Jewelry should be taken off during PE classes.
  • You are responsible for being in class on time and leaving class at the posted time.
  • Foul language and put downs will not be tolerated.

VIOLATIONS OF EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:
  • Students who violate any of the above rules for the first time will be given a written assignment at the discretion of the teacher.
  • A second violation will result in a work detention and a call home to parents.
  • A third violation will result in a parent/teacher conference.
PARTICIPATION:  It is expected that all students will participate in all classes.  If you are ill, you will need a parental note excusing you from class.  Following a long-term illness or injury, a doctor’s note allowing your participation back in class may be necessary.

LOCKERS:  All students can be issued lockers.  If you would rather bring in your own lock, it must be cleared with your instructor first.  Keep your combination to yourself, and lock your things when leaving the room.  If you choose not to use a lock, you are giving up the opportunity to have a safe place to keep your things.

GRADING PROCEDURES:  The following criteria will be use to determine the daily effort points:
  •  0 – Pt.  Completely off task behavior, no effort, or totally unprepared.
  •  1 – Pt.   Minimal effort, poor display of skills and /or knowledge in a practical or game situation.
  •  2 – Pt.  Needs improvement, more sincere effort at learning skills.
  •  3 – Pt.  Meets expectations within one’s own ability, learns and applies skills.
  •  4 – Pt.  Above expectations, excels within one’s own ability at learning and applying skills.
